The Port of Dock Sud completed the shipment of an oil drilling rig destined for Onne Port, Nigeria, in a project cargo operation carried out at the general cargo public pier. The maneuver involved a total of 1,960 tons and a volume of 7,063 cubic meters, thus requiring the coordination of various stakeholders linked to logistics and maritime transport.
The cargo was loaded aboard the BBC Tallinn, an Antigua and Barbuda-flagged vessel featuring 140.47 meters in length (LOA) and 22.8 meters in beam. The operation was managed by the company Loginter.
Due to its characteristics, it was a project cargo operation, a modality comprising large-scale and heavy equipment, structures, or goods that require specific procedures for handling, storage, stowage, and transport. In this case, the dimensions and weight of the drilling rig demanded particular logistical planning to complete the shipment and prepare the cargo for international transport.
The destination of the operation is Onne Port, located in Nigeria and connected to the oil and gas industry activities of the African country. Thus, a cargo associated with the petroleum activity departed from an Argentine port terminal toward an international market, utilizing a maritime operation specifically designed for the transport of oversized equipment.
The Port of Dock Sud Management Consortium highlighted the infrastructure available for this type of movement. Its President, Mónica Litza, stated: "This operation demonstrates the fundamental value of our port as a strategic hub connecting production with international commerce, facilitating both the import of key inputs and the export of high-value-added goods."
"We have the infrastructure, technology, and trained human capital to tackle highly complex logistical challenges and continue boosting national and regional productive development," she concluded.
